How to Zap Litter Box Odors

We love our cats. But one of the challenges that we face is the odor from their litter box. Even with daily scooping, and regular cleaning, the ammonia odor will knock you out.

Did You Know the Odors are on You?

A good cat owner is always in denial about it. But, the cat box leaves smells on your furniture, in your clothes, and everywhere else. Don’t let the first thing your guests recognize be cat stink. It’s easy to remove odors with an ozone generator.

There’s Hope for a Cleaner Smell

Do this ozonating in a couple of ways depending on where the smell is. You can either treat the room where you keep your litter box or the whole house. Both are even better. For this application, we recommend our A7K Ozone Generator or Air-7000 Ozone Generator.

The A7K Ozone Generator has a remote control, which allows you to make your exit soon. Set your A7K ozonator with the remote control or with the buttons on the machine. The display will show a repeat timer, plate selection (3,500 mg/hour or 7,000 mg/hour). There are three fan speeds and a timer to set at either 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or 4 hours.
	The A-7000 Ozone Generator produces 7000 mg/hour. That is the strength needed to get the pet odors. To operate the A-7000 ozonator, turn the dial from between 30 minutes up to 4 hours.

 

For Single-Room Treatment:

1. Place the ozone generator into the affected room.
2. Turn the ozonator on full power.
3. Select the time setting on your ozone machine according to the chart below:

Large Sized Room: 3 to 4 hours
Medium Sized Room: 1 to 2 hours
Small Room or Closet: 30 minutes to 1 hour

 

  

Leave the House, and Take Your Cat with You!

 

Be sure to leave the house immediately after your unit begins producing ozone. Return after 12-24 hours. If there is any lingering cat smell, repeat the ozonation.

You Can Also Treat the Whole House Using the AC Method:

1. To begin, determine where the air return vent is on the heating and cooling system.
2. Remove the filter and turn the AC fan ON.
3. Place the ozonator in front of or near the return vent.
4. Set the ozone machine for a 4-hour cycle and immediately exit the home.

Return after 12-24 hours. The cat smell will be gone. If there is any lingering smell, repeat the ozonation process.

Keep in mind, the half-life of ozone is 30 minutes. The ozone reverts back to oxygen. The time for this process depends on room temperature, humidity, and other factors.

If the smell of ozone is still strong after 12-24 hours have passed, open windows to air out the home. If the cat odor is still present, repeat the ozonation process.

 

Freshness that Lasts

Now, your home will smell fresh and clean. Keep scooping the litter box daily and continue to clean it weekly. Do not forget to vacuum and maintain your home. Then, when those pesky odors occur, get your ozone generator out and treat the house.

You are now ready to invite guests over. Your feline may waltz out to see who’s visiting. When they do, your guests may comment on how nice your house smells. Such a pleasant surprise!

IMPORTANT:
Please remember to remove people, pets, and plants from the area. Leave the area immediately and only return once the ozone has dissipated. Return after 12-24 hours after the unit stops producing ozone. Treated spaces or buildings should be well-ventilated before re-entry. For your safety, read all instructions in the manual, and pay attention to all labeling.
